LASIK surgery (which stands for laser assisted in situ Keratomileusis) is a permanent vision correction procedure performed as an alternative to glasses or contacts. The goal of LASIK is to correct vision by reshaping the cornea. A LASIK procedure takes about 10 minutes per eye. However, the excimer laser corrects a patient’s vision in a few seconds. LASIK provides rapid healing and recovery time. Patients typically start enjoying their amazing new vision within a few hours from the procedure.
There are three main steps to a personalized LASIK treatment:
At Katzen Eye Care we offer iDesign LASIK Studio technology. This means our patients will receive a completely personalized treatment designed just for them. No two eyes are the same. State-of-the-art diagnostic equipment, bladeless femto laser and the excimer laser are the components to a unique treatment for your vision needs.
If you answer "Yes" to any of these questions, you may be a good candidate for LASIK.
At a time that’s convenient for you, a doctor will meet with you to discuss the changes in your vision and help you understand available options. The consultation and diagnostic testing are free, and certainly does not obligate you to any future service. We are able to determine if you are a candidate for LASIK. You will have an opportunity to schedule your procedure at this appointment.
After being greeted by the staff, you are met by the ophthalmologist who will be performing your LASIK procedure. After a final diagnostic exam, the lasers are set with your exact prescription. You enter the laser suite for the procedure, which lasts about 15-20 min.
After surgery, you must have a friend or family member provide your transportation home. You will experience improved vision right away, but we recommend not reading, driving, or using a computer for the rest of the day. After a good night’s sleep you can return to work the next day.
It is important that you meet with a doctor the day after your LASIK. We will confirm that your eyes are healthy and clear you for normal activity.

Many patients report feeling no pain with their LASIK surgery. Anesthetic drops are used to fully numb the eye before and during the procedure. You may feel slight pressure around your eyes for a few seconds. Most patients are quite comfortable after taking a short nap after their surgery.
The pre-operative visit and procedure are done at our Boynton Beach location only.
